Happiness is taking money from suckers

GBJazzMan| November 10, 2006 11:40 pm

The Knights of Colombus run a poker room out of the bingo hall on Van Slyke by the planets, and Dad and I decided to check it out. I sat down with $60, and walked away with a touch over $100. Which is pretty good considering I was down to $12 at one point. I had some decent hands too, trip 7s, tens full of kings, a couple of Nut Flushs, and Ace high straight (which was a gut shot, btw).

Dad didn’t do as well but I have more experience playing at a table than he does. One things we both noticed was that the quality of players was not as good as at Soaring Eagle. There was one guy at my table who would visably shake whenever he decided to call with a draw of some sort. And there was a guy at Dad’s table that would play about anything.

I got my schedule for class for next quarter, and it’s a bit on the strange side. I’ve got a night class on Thursday, and morning classes on Friday and Saturday. Ce La Vie, I guess.

My Nano is still chugging along. I didn’t write in it today, but that’s what I get for buying FFXII. Which is a good game, I recommend it to anyone.

Sorry about that, now with your regularily scheduled blog.

I went to Soaring Eagle last weekend and had a much better outcome than I did last time. Yes, I still finished down, but I was only down $5 and I played much better, also. For example: There was a guy at the end of the table who played basically every hand and had gotten lucky on the river alot, and would hoot and hollar when he did. Well, here’s what happened. I had pocket jacks in middle position and called the big blind. The flop was 6d 6s 8s. So I had two pair, I bet he calls. Next card is a 4h. Again, I bet, he calls. With the exception of the 6′s, the board is clean, and he wasn’t playing aggressively enought to have trips, so I’m guessing he’s got spades. River card is the Jack of Spades. I’ve got a full house, so unless he’s been slowplaying quad sixes, I’ve got him beat, and I hope he’s got the flush. So I bet, he raise and I call. He flips over Ace, Queen of Spades. “I’ve got the nuts!” he’s hollaring like he had just won the WSOP. I decided to have some fun with him. “Wow, that’s pretty good.” I paused. “Too bad I’ve got Jacks full of sixes.”

He was cursing that hand for the next ten minutes. I went on to have Jacks full of sixes a couple of more times that night. I also had quad queens, which wasn’t the best hand I saw all night. The guy next to me had a royal flush.

Also, apparently, one of the Catholic churches run a charity cash game on the weekend and dad and I are thinking about going and checking it out.

Work’s been there, not a whole lot to talk about there. I did see something funny tho the other day. I was walking into work and a white trash couple was walking out of work. Their one kid was just screaming for whatever reason, and the mom said, and I quote because I’m not this orginal, “If you don’t shut the hell up, I’m gonna drop you on your fucking head.”

Flint parenting at its finest.

This quarter is almost over, and next week is the last week of class, I can’t hardly believe it. I mean, I’m still glad I went back to school but this semister has flew by.

My NaNo is going well. I’m over the 11k word mark, and I haven’t hit any writers block yet. I still haven’t decided if I want to post it here or set up another blog for it. Something I’ll have to think about.

Nothing else much has been happening in Matt-Land, except that voting yesterday has caused my carpel tunnel to flair up. Stupid scantron ballets.

Wee! Creativeness!

GBJazzMan| November 1, 2006 1:22 pm

Well, Nation Novel Writing Month is apon us, and I’m feelin’ it. I’ve wrote about 5 pages or so (1800 words) and I feel good. I got into a bit of a connudrum as to what I should write about and such, but after talking to Amanda last night, I settled down into an idea. I’m tentatively calling it “Nova Titan”. It’s a Sci fi book set some 200 years into the future. It’s gonna have a shadowrun style feel to it, and to answer the question that’s on everyone’s mind, no it won’t have any of my RPG characters in it. No Naryn and no Sheyrena. Alteast I’m not planning on it, as of now. Tonight when I get home from work I’m going to hammer out some character bios and a plot atleast, since I’ve got some ideas as to what I want to do, it’s just not on paper yet.

Yesterday was the first day I worked a 10 at work. Wasn’t too bad, but the day dragged because it was slow. We got hung with a lot of candy. I mean a ton. Last year, we had some baskets of candy left. This year, we’ve got skits left. Lots of skids left. So if you want cheap candy, it’ll probably be down to 75% off by the end of the week.

Class is going extremely well, I’ve got A’s in all of my classes, which is good. I’m glad I’m off to such a good start.

That’s it for now. I’ll make sure to post my NaNo stuff after I get home from work.

Me = noob

I apologize for not posting in a while. I’d like to have some elaborate excuse as to why I’m not posting. But mostly, its just me being lazy. I apologize and I hope I don’t offend any of my readers.

I’ve been playing internet poker still and I’m starting to feel more confident in my hand reading skills, and I’m thinking I am going to goto the casino next month with my folks. Hopefully this time around is better than the last time around.

I’m not going to talk about the Tigers. Or Kenny Roger’s spot, even though it was responsible for the Great Depression.

I love how people break stereotypes. There’s a guy in my class named Vince who looks like a “wigro” and stuff. He’s actually pretty cool and is an Age of Empires freak.

That’s it for now, but I do have a mission for everyone out there in Hoobaland: get on my ass if I don’t post everyday. kthxbai

Long time no post

GBJazzMan| October 21, 2006 10:22 am

No post in a while, I apologize. And I blame Civ3. I really need to stop playing that game.

The power adapter on my laptop died, so I had to buy a new one. And rather than buy a replacement from Dell, which would take 2 weeks to get here, I bought a universal one at Office Max. It’s working pretty well, I’m pleased. And it’s designed better that the Dell one, so hopefully it doesn’t die like the offical ones did.

During the week I was sicker than a dog. I actually developed a headache after I wrote my last post that lasted for like 2 days before it went away. I did learn something about myself. Acetaminaphin doesn’t do shit for my sinus headaches.

Class is going well, and my dream for a 4 point is still there. I am really glad I’m back in school. I wish I was back at UMF, but that just wasn’t going to work out.

I’ve got to work this afternoon, so I going to end this post here. Too bad I’m going to miss a big chunk of Game 1 of the world series.

Panara + “I read your email” sticker = free entertainment

GBJazzMan| October 17, 2006 7:07 pm

Seriously. I’ve got a middle age couple circling my booth like hawks right now. Like I would really care about their pretenious book clubs and golf outings. I can say this, because the guy is wearing a tweed jacket.

The more I read FJM, the more I realize that I need to read Moneyball. I’m not sure if I agree with everything they say, but atleast they make me laugh while doing it.

I really wish this headcold would go away. Which is why I’m going to hitup Wally World on the way home and get some OJ. And I’m gonna drink the hell outta that shit.

So I think I’m gonna start reading some of Dad’s poker books. I’ve finally gotten over the fact that I sucked bad on Friday and I’m ready start improving. Why, you ask? Well, in November, the folks are going to see Jonny Lang at Soaring Eagle and they offered to let me tag along. Also, there’s a “for fun” tourney at school coming up soon, and I want to school one of the idiots in my class who was saying that he was a good player, lolololol. (The lololololol was added to reinforce my opinion on the idiot.

God, Chiyo is dusty. I need to dust her more often. And if you don’t know what I’m referring to, that probably sounds dirty.

Also, I need to play less Civ 3. For Fucks sake.

lol typo

GBJazzMan| October 16, 2006 11:11 pm

So there was a bad typo at the top of the last post, but apparently nobody caught it. Suckers!

Tigers are going to the World Series. To say that I’m geeked about it is an understatement. I was two when this last happened. I will remember that Magglio homer for a while, probably ever.

Classes are going. Ski, the instructor for my Monday class actually showed some humor today, much to the shock of everyone involved. I still want to pop that one kid in mouth.

Beyond that, nothing much else to say. lulz

I swear to God, I think they’re my favorite snake food.

Work was uneventful and boring, which is good. I was in Frozen for the first time in a while, and it reminded me how much I hate working down there. Readers of the Hoobablog will remember me complaining about a coworker last week. She didn’t say squat to me today, which is fine by me. I think she wanted to, but for whatever reason she bite her tongue. Also, Pedro still owes me lunch for doubting the Tigers.

At this point in the blog post, I’d like to send my condolences to the family of Yankees’s pitcher Cory Lidle. I wasn’t a fan of his, but no one deserves to go out like him. I will remember his family, friends and teammates in my prays as they try to cope with this trageity.

Speaking of hard shots, I had a rant setup on why the Tigers wouldn’t want A-rod, and then Steve and Pinko had to go all blogosphere on me and create a Sports Blog for the three of us, entitled Zumaya Shoots, He Scores! I mean, I guess I could retype it, but I’m lazy. You can find the post here

I have an exciting day of excitingness…atude planned for tomorrow. I’m gonna hit the library, do some school work and coding, get Qdoba for lunch, hit Perani’s for bargins on Tigers jersey. Later in the evening, I’m going to setup a WAP at my cousin Jan’s apartment. And she said she will pay me, which is good, ’cause I’m planning on Gambling on Friday (as long as the weather isn’t shitty shitty)

Well, that’s all I got for now. And congrats to the Tigers on another win. I forgot how heart attack inducing Todd Jones save opertunities can be

Wow, I missed another day

GBJazzMan| October 11, 2006 10:36 am

The Tigers have a 1-0 lead on the A’s now. Which is a good thing. But there’s something about this series that just doesn’t sit well. Not sure what, but there’s something about the A’s that I just don’t like.

That being said, I hope they pull something out.

So I’m running Shadowrun this weekend with Spencer and the guys from UMF. Should go pretty smoothly, regardless of the fact that I have only a couple of days to make an adventure.

There’s a kid in my Wednesday class that I ohh so want to pop in the mouth. The kid’s a moron and has yet to say anything intelligent. Ohh well.

I apologize for the previous part of the post. I’m a bit out of it, and going to lunch helped clear my head and focus for a bit.

I’m so not looking forward to work tonight, but whatever. I’ve got the next two days off, so it’s all good

That’s it. Time to end this trainwreck

Oops

GBJazzMan| October 9, 2006 1:42 pm

I apologize for my lack of updating over the weekend, between work and the Yankees getting Bonderm0wned (more on that later), I forgot. No, this is not the start of a bad habit of not updating, but whatever.

If there is one thing I’ve learned this weekend at work, its that Genesee county has a lot of uglies bitches. I mean, holy shit. The faster I get out of here and onto a place where I can find someone attractive and not-white trash to try to date, the better.

So Hockey season is several days old, and yet, I haven’t watched any hockey. Mainly because I’ve been to obsessed with how the Tigers kicked some New York ass. Did I call it or what? I mean, good pitching beats good hitting anyday. And that idiot Joe Morgan on ESPN is too much of an idiot to realize that the Yankees only had great hitting on paper. I got a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, not only because the Yankees are out of the playoffs, and not only because the Tigers did it, but because heads are going to roll in New York and that Detroit was responsible. To paraphrase Jason, “We made this!”

I got a 79 on a quiz in my one class. Not too happy about that, but hey, what am I gonna do? I’m going to just have to try to kick some more ass on future quizzes and such.

There were a shitton of Marines in panara just now. They were in Dress Uniform, but I think they were undercover. If I were paranoid, I’d suggest that they were monitoring me, bcause I pwn their email. But, I’m not.

Anyway, that’s it for now. My ADD is kicking in and not letting me focus on posting. More later when I can pay attention
