This is Matt. He is getting shit done.

GBJazzMan| December 19, 2007 4:41 pm

Have you ever had one of those days when you just start working on stuff and you find it hard to slow down? That’s the way I’ve been today. On my Wednesday’s I don’t go home during th middle of the day because I the school is now farther from my house than it used to be. I mean, I’ve gotten a good chunk of my homework done so I don’t have to do anything over break. I’ve gotten other stuff done and I feel great. Actually doing things as opposed to just sitting on my ass is awesome.

Keeping my mind busy also has the added effect of keeping my mind from wandering into doom and gloom, which is its want during the winter. Am I doing the right thing with my life, etc. As long as I’m working to better myself and to hopefully better the future, the less I need to worry about and the less that I will worry about.

On a slightly geekier note, I got my spare box working and I think I’m going to use that to join the ubuntu testing team. I want to get more involved in the opensource community, and since I don’t know how to code in C or Lisp, I figured this was the best way to do that.

It’s currently great time to be Matt, and I’m positive that the end of 2007 and the start of 2008 will be awesome too. Watch, now that I’ve mentioned that, it’s gonna suck balls. And probably by mentioning it’ll suck it’s going to suck. Or whatever.

Anyway, I’m out, later.

Quarter’s half over

GBJazzMan| October 21, 2007 10:52 pm

My current quarter is over half over, and although I am doing well, I can’t help but feel like I’m slacking. I haven’t kept up to date with my readings as I should and I know that if I continue like this I’ll get my ass kicked in the later quarters.

In an attempt to “get things done”, I purchased a moleskine notebook and using several ideas I found on Lifehacker, I’ve made a planner/idea book out of it. I’m gonna give it a whirl and hopes that it makes me more productive.

Nano is around the quarter and I’m planning on doing some planning for Nano. I do not want to go into it unprepared like I did last year. It was a good experience and and I did enjoy writing Nova Titan, but Mike and I kinda want to use this a script eventually. So I’m atleast going to write a crappy outline, hopefully more.

I broke my laptop. I went to pick it up off my desk at school and the cord was wrapped around the arm of the chair. I broke the end of the plug and the socket where the plug plugs into.  So with some finacial help from the parents, I was able to purchase a new laptop, a Dell 1501 from Sam’s. So far I’m happy with it but the first thing I did was install Linux on it. Vista Home Basic is a “slice of shit”.

That’s all I’ve got right now. Good night. Go Boston.

We left all the food at the food place!

GBJazzMan| July 14, 2007 9:56 am

Thursday was my last day at the food library. I quit yesterday, and although it was a somewhat shitty job, I was a bit torn. Everyone that I talked to wished me luck and no one seemed to hold any ill will that I just up and quit. I figure I’ve got one year left on my degree, and I’ll make the money from work study work until then. I am kinda glad that I don’t need to wear a thermal long sleeve in the middle of summer for work anymore.

I’m playing really good genius type poker lately. I played last night and ended up taking $100 off of people at a 2-4 game as they busted out of the multi-table tourney. Those tables are soft. I have no qualms at saying that I’m probably one of the best limit players in the area. That’s not me bragging, that’s me saying that I win more at $2-4 limit, probably the hardest game to win at, then anyone else around. I saw one guy last night, dip into his wallet 3 times. He blew like $140 in over an hour.  I might loose in a given night, but I’m not dipping into my wallet over and over.

This was the guy that I won a $50 pot against. He raised in middle position with queens and I called from the big blind with 8-6 offsuit. The flop came 8-8-6. I flopped the nuts. And I checked the nuts. Guy to my left bets, Dad (who had busted out of the tourney) calls, orginal raiser raises, couple of calls, then I drop the hammer on ‘em. Long story short, I won a big pot and this dude, who obviously doesn’t know how to play limit, looked like I had punted his dog or something.

Speaking of hard shots, I am convinced that after watching the Mixed Texas Hold ‘em event from the World Series on ESPN, I could clean up that table up. Why? Because no body knows how to play limit. Of the 9 players at the final table, one of them knew how to play limit. Only problem is, is that the buying for that event is $5000, which I currently don’t have, and doubt I’ll have the self control to have by next June. That being said, I’m really tempted to sell pieces of my action in exchange for pwning some noobs.  Also, Bracelet.

On my way to work this morning, I passed by Oliver T’s, the one fancy grocery store in Grand Blanc and their sign said “Jarlsberg Cheese on sale” and my first reaction was “I wonder if I could zap some regular cheese to get that”. I need to lay off the Kingdom of Loathing.

That’s all I got for now. At least it’s a post, yeah.

I am such a slacker

GBJazzMan| July 11, 2007 11:05 am

So I started a blog post, like, two weeks ago. HAH!

Work and school have been okay, no real big surprises there.  The Food Library is dicking me out of hours, but then again, that’s pretty par for the course. I had a job interview at last week for a company, but it appears to have fallen through. I mean, the interview was before the Fourth and I haven’t heard anything back from them. Kinda sucks because it would have been a really great opportunity. I need to seriously start buckling down and working on getting certs and such. The problem is just sitting down and doing it instead of kinda vegging out on the internet.

I am, in an always present attempt to become more organized, cleaning up my room and organize everything. I’m continuing to throw stuff out, so if there’s anything I’m going to get rid of, I’ll let you guys know. See if I can’t sell it to someone for a few bucks instead of just pitching it.

Last night was the MLB All-Star game, and it was pretty boring. I’m not even gonna lie. It was a sleeper and so was the Home Run Derby. Best part about it was watching Steve get pissed because Ichiro is in his 30s and doesn’t speak English very well.

I can feel myself falling into some of my old habits. Staying up late, waking up late, getting iratable and the smallest little thing. I’m starting to wonder if I should go see therapy again. I’m really considering it but the problem is finding time to do it. Between two jobs and school, I’ll have to make time for it.

Poker has been really good the last couple of weeks. Last week at the home game, I finished in the money all three games, coming in twice second, and chopping the other two games.  The Boyd’s aren’t here all summer so the home game is a bit more relaxed, and I think that that benefits my play style, actually. Tom and Will tend to be hyperaggressive before the flop, and the relaxed flop play means that I can see more flops with rags.

The most interesting thing to come out of Saturday’s game (besides Josh loosing with the best hand like five times) was Sopha’s play. For no apparent reason, he started to play hyper aggressive, especially if I was in a pot. I must have done something to him to upset him, but I can’t remember me putting a bad beat on him and I’m never openly rude to other players. So either he saw something that wasn’t there or he felt that being super aggressive against me was the only way to counteract that fact that I’m a better player than he is. Regardless his play returned to normal after I trapped him with trip aces.

Also, Dad and I found a new charity room to play in around here. And they do Friday night tourneys. Dad prefers tourneys so he plays in those (and came in 8th this last Friday). Me, however, love the cash games. I also love taking money from players have busted out of the tourney and are on tilt. I’ve made atleast $40 the last two weeks I’ve played there, and two weeks ago I finished up $120 for the night. Not bad for 2-4 limit.

Which leads me to a hand analysis. I was Under the Gun and I was going to raise with any two cards, for the sole reason that it was, at the time, going to be my last hand for the night. Dad had busted out of the tourney and since we rode together, I didn’t want to keep him waiting any more. I wake up with King Queen of clubs, so I could think of worse hands to raise with. There’s like 5 of use to the flop which is KQ5, rainbow. Probably the best possible flop for me. The Big Blind checks to me and I lead out. The guy to my left raises, which I find interesting. At this point, there are only three hands that I’m worried about kings, queens or fives. This guy had been raising every pot with garbage, so I didn’t think he had kings or queens. He might have 5s, but I’d doubt it. So he’s probably got a king or a queen with a good kicker. Action folds to me so I reraise, confident that I’ve got the best hand now. He calls and we’re heads up, the turn and the river are both blanks, so I continue to beat he calls me. Now I’m positive that he’s got top pair with a good kicker. I show my hand and announce that I had kings up. He mutters something under his breath and shows pocket rockets. The guy smooth called my raise before the flop with aces. If you guys ever learn anything from my blog learn this, Never slow play Aces before the flop in low limit cash games. It worked out for him, because he ended up saving himself 2 dollars, but it was still the incorrect play. You should always raise with Aces in limit because you want to make it as expensive as possible for the limpers.

Well, that’s all I got right now. I’ll try to get these updates on a more regular basis

I hate it when I have writers block related to a blog title, ohh well.

Working at the Food Library after Work Study wasn’t bad. I mean, my feet were killing me, but it’s not like I’m doing anything really difficult at either job. Only bad thing about working the two jobs is that Sunday is probably gonna be the only day of the week that I do absolutely nothing, which is fine by me.

I’ve already started to compile a list in my head of “Things to buy” once I starting getting paid for the other job. Top of the list is to pay off a year of hosting, with getting a new laptop towards the top as well. I mean, I like this one, but I’d like to get a new one that is a bit more powerful, has internal wireless and doesn’t have random bits popping off the back.

Spencer is a trapping son of a bitch. Last game of poker came up to me and him heads up, and my two pair ran into his straight. I mean, he played it right and he even said that he feels he can’t outplay me, so I guess that’s some sort of weird ass compliment.  I need to get better and recognizing traps, but to be fair, it was like 4am at the time.

Last night while I was waiting for Mike to fix his MacBook so we could play Exalted with John (lol broken mac), I drew my character for that campaign. It came out better than I could have hoped, considering I haven’t picked up a pencil for that reason since Christmas. I do need to see if I can find a .3mm drafting pencil somewhere because these el cheapo .7mm throwaways I use for school are shit for drawing. Seriously. Also, Mike and I are talking about maybe doing an Exalted comic which I think would be a lot of fun. Even tho I’m kinda medicore, I do enjoy drawing and I think that a comic would force me to be a better artist, because I’d actually have to draw action poses (and hands)

NS13 was rolled out in Kingdom of Loathing, and it’s slightly weird. I’ll post more on that later. Now? I’m gonna burn turns until class starts

Long time no post

GBJazzMan| June 23, 2007 10:16 am

Dear Internets,

I apologize for neglecting you and this blog. Things have been happening, I’ve just been too lazy to let you know about them. I will attempt be better about posting but I need you, the Internets, to get on my ass when I don’t write.

Today is my first day of Work Study, which I got. I may or maynot have mentioned that. So far it’s pretty laid back. I’m in the main lab blogging, doing homework, and basically making myself available just in case something happens. The thing that I am glad about is that I don’t need to clean the bathrooms.

It is going to be a long day, however, with work at the food library right after this. I’m going to try both jobs, and see how things work out before I make a decision, but I’m sure that these 12 hour days are going to suck.

I have decided that I waste too much time. After doing some quick math, there are probably 40 hours a week that I’m wasting after work, sleep and school. In an order to be more productive, I’m going to start doing stuff. Like writing, or drawing, or reading, or working on certs. Anything has got to be more productive than just kinda veggie out infront of my computer. It’s not like I’m evening playing video games. I played a bit of Knights of the Old Republic last weekend, but besides that the most gaming I’ve done is Kingdom of Loathing. So I don’t know, I know I’m getting busier, but I do seem to focus when I’m busy.

I think I need to lay off on Digg, because my Internet ADD is getting really bad.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. I promise more posts.

I hate my body sometimes

GBJazzMan| June 12, 2007 11:12 pm

And I’m not talking about the weight I need to loose either. My carpel tunnel was fine all during break and boom, I’m back to school for 2 days and it’s bothering me already. Sometimes I seriously consider going and getting cordizone shots in my wrists.

I got the work study job at school! I’m so pumped about that! And it looks like I’ll be able to work there and continue working at the Foods Library. Which is good. Everyone could use more money.

I think something is wrong with the Bismarck. I’ll post something more once I know.

Friday, I’m gonna start a push on Script Frenzy. Seeing as how I’ve slacked the entire month.

Quick, name one thing that doesn’t have to do with guitars. Go.

GBJazzMan| June 11, 2007 8:05 am

School’s back in for the summer, and I’m looking forward to another fun filled weeks of learning. I pulled a 4 point again last quarter, which I am proud of. I’m almost positive that this quarter I’m going to have to work even harder to keep that GPA up.

I’ve been a lazy writer. I have done absolutely nothing with Script Frenzy. When I mean nothing I don’t even have a title. Which is all sorts of sad. I do have a composition class this quarter, so maybe that turn things around. Probably not, but atleast I can dream.

One thing before I end this post: I saw the dirtiest as in white trashiest asian ever on Saturday before Poker. He had a mullet, white trash mustache, a teal hoodie, basketball shorts, was buying a tallboy of Coors Light and drove a rusted out late 80s Blazer. I had to really control the laughter.

School’s out for a week

GBJazzMan| May 24, 2007 3:37 pm

I’m done with finals, and I’ve got a week off until I go back for more. Next week is gonna be chocked full of sleep and nerdness. I had my math final today, and I’m confident that I aced it. Unless I did a stupid math mistake and got something wrong, I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t have gotten all of those questions right.

I love the barter system. Will gave me that powersupply today, and I’m going to give him a working harddrive in exchange. I got what I wanted and he’ll get what he wants and it’s not gonna cost either of us a dime.

Work was kinda weird yesterday. The old people were out in force for no apparent, more so than usually for a day that was the 1st or 15th day of month. Sometimes I think that the old people have a forum somewhere where they plot to irate me at work with asinine questions like where is the catfood when they’re standing right next a display of it.

I had my best session of poker in a while Tuesday night. Sat down with 60, walked away with close to 200. It was sick. I’d stay in with hands and they’d hit. I’m not talking like two pair or a straight. I’m talking like full houses and quads once. It was sick.

I watch way to much Metalocalypse too. Or maybe not enough. Whatever

Life is pretty good

GBJazzMan| May 23, 2007 10:28 am

Life’s been a bit dull, but still good. So far I’m two for two on final exams with one left tomorrow. I’m looking foward to a week off next week. I plan on nerding it up pretty hard next. Mostly computer stuff. Will said he’d give me an old powersupply that he has, and I’m going to use that to get a machine run that I intend to use as a file server/print server. Trying learn how to get Samba to run is gonna be fun. I also plan on rigging the “panic button”.

Last night was poker and I was surprised at how hard the deck was hitting me. I had quads and got paid off. I had a couple of boats, and got paid off. It was sick.

I think it’s time for a quick nap before work.
