Wow, I fail

GBJazzMan| January 22, 2008 1:35 pm

So I kinda disappeared the last couple of days and I apologize. I think my ankle sprain affected me more that I would have hoped. I literally did nothing this weekend and that kinda sucks. I really need someone or something that will drive me to task when I have things that I want or need to get done, because apparently I’m to much of a sloth to do it myself.

I also have had a bit of a hickup on the Joint Project with Steve and Rob. I know part of it is my ankle has really prevented me from working out, but I’ve also been hungry all the time.

Ugg, this post is way too emo for my tastes. I promise the next post will be less so.

lol blog post lol

GBJazzMan| January 16, 2008 4:04 pm

I put the second lol in there because I am not sure if I have “lol blog post” thing.

Yesterday was very informative. It was pretty boring, but informative non-the less. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, I went to a Microsoft TechNet event in Livonia yesterday. They discussed BitLocker for Vista and Server 2008, which seems to be really cool on the fly hard drive encryption. They also talked about some protocol procedures built into Server 2008. Very dry material, but still quite interesting.

The drive down to Livonia sucks as. I do think I have a better idea of what Seattle in Shadowrun is like, which segways quite nicely into my next topic: I’m running a Shadowrun game this weekend (Did you see what I did there?). The guys want to play Shadowrun this weekend. It should be a lot of fun, I just need to come with some ideas to use with it.

I’m falling asleep, so I’m going to post more later

Oops

Sorry about not posting yesterday. I promise a super post later today.

Lazy Sunday

GBJazzMan| January 13, 2008 11:26 pm

I worked this afternoon. We got the phone system fully documented. It was a lot of headaches, but it’s done. We didn’t rip the rack clean, but atleast we can now. I do get two days off this week also. Working this weekend so I get a long weekend next weekend works for me.

Any, that’s it. I didn’t do anything interesting like nuke my wordpress theme like Rach did.

A simple post

GBJazzMan| January 11, 2008 8:59 pm

quick post from the phone, lolLOL

So earlier today, while playing poker, and sucking, I made a post from my iphone. And the above line was the result. The person responsible for that has been sacked.

I’ve got nothing but the following screenie of some spam I got today. Look at what the spam is promising me.

I have done nothing today

GBJazzMan| January 10, 2008 8:54 pm

I’ve been so tired from work the last two days that I have done squat, and I feel bad about it, because at the beginning of the week I was so gung-ho about it and stuff. I’ve got the Caffiene headache going, but I don’t want to drink any more since it’s so close to bedtime.

Speaking of work, I’ve been running, or limp as the case maybe, with my bad ankle, for the last two days. I’ve been moving non-stop doing this and that, which is actually good. I’d rather be busy than bored with nothing to do.

My new graphics card came, which is gonna be awesome. Hopefully its leetness will translate into me being able to run dual monitors and games at the same time. Ever since I’ve started running dual monitors, I’ve noticed that my games crap out if I run them on cranked out settings. The new card has a half a gig of ram, so that shouldn’t be a concern anymore.

That’s all I’ve got. Hopefully tomorrow’s post will be more insightful.

I hate headaches

GBJazzMan| January 8, 2008 7:08 pm

I’ve had one all day and nothing I’ve tried seems to work. Ohh well.

As some of you may or may not know, I’ve been thinking about starting up a side business where I basically do what I do now, which is get paid to do peoples networking stuff for them. Well, I’ve already got a business card design in the works, and I want to make sure that from a tax standpoint, everything I was doing was correct. So I talked to one of the instructors at school to get the skinny on what I should do, should I get an LLC or a DBA. After talking to him I got a lot of my questions answered, and I decided to setup a DBA, mainly due to cost and the fact that this business doesn’t generate enough income to warrent being incorporated.

There’s a Microsoft seminar in Livonia that I’m going to next week. I get out of class for the day and it seems like a pretty cool experience. Also, there will be free stuff. I had to laugh as a I signed up, because I’m going to be a Linux guy with an Apple phone at a Microsoft event.

I actually went grocery shopping today for healthy food. Christ, I feel like a responsible adult.

I’ve decided to join Rob in his exercise challenge. You can find out more at the Joint Project page at the top.

Just one of those days

GBJazzMan| January 7, 2008 10:02 pm

If I could just stay focused and productive like I was for a few hours today for most of the day, everyday, I’d be one of the most productive people ever. I got so much stuff done in like four hours and then I did squat. Hell, even writing this post is kinda painful.

Mike and I shooting for February for the start of our webcomic. In the coming days I’ll probably start putting artwork to build buzz among the half a dozen of you who read this.

On a side note, does anyone have any ideas for healthy snack food, I’d greatly appreciate it. This fat ass would like to be a former fat-ass

Organization Sunday: The Moleskine hack

GBJazzMan| January 6, 2008 10:19 pm

I know I’ve said this before, but a couple days a week I’m going to try to have a post that fills a theme. And now on Sundays this year is going to be about how I get things done. Just as a disclaimer, I haven’t actually read any GTD novels, so I don’t know how things are supposed to work. These are just some things that work for me.

Like everyone else, I’ve tried numerous methods to keep track of stuff that I have to do, be it personal commitments or school or work assignments and whatnot. I’ve tried PDAs, scraps of paper, pocketmods, and using my phone to keep track of stuff. That’s when I stopped across this moleskine hack via Lifehacker. And I’ve decided to give it a try. I’ve set mine up almost exactly like he did, so if you’re interested in setting up the base GTD Moleskine.

overview.JPG

The thing I like about the GTD Moleskine is that it is small. I’ve tried other methods that were a little bit more robust, but weren’t very portable. For those of you who haven’t worked with a moleskine before, they are really nice and I had wished that I had known about them before. The paper is of a very good quality and the leather cover is fairly tough. The flags I used are just some Post-it flags you can get anywhere.

inbox.JPG

One of the most important parts of the GTD method as I’ve gathered is the inbox/next action. The bulk of this moleskine is the inbox and it’s by fair the section that I used the most. Whenever I have something I have to do, be it reminding myself to blog or working on a project for school, I write it down in there. I find this extremely useful. I’ve tried to do this with digital devices but they were never this intuitive or quick. I don’t use the reference or interation bits as much as I should, but I probably should. One thing I need to do is go through my inbox and make sure everything is up towards the current page, denoted by the moleskine’s builtin bookmark.

This is where I break off from the design I based this off of and this is based off of my needs. As an amateur novelist and webcomic artist, I wanted a section of the moleskine for doodles and notes. I’ve created a simple template out of  a notecard and I use this section whenever an idea hits me that I don’t want to forget. Do to the nature of this section, it’s a lot less structured than how I have the rest of the moleskine setup.

Just like original, I have a projects and a someday/maybe section. I don’t utilize as much as I should. I will try to use these more this year, so that way they’re not just wasted pages.

All in all, I love it. I’m not scrambling to complete tasks and assignments anymore and I feel much more relaxed when I sit down to do work.  I do combine this with Google Calendar and my iPhone so I get alerts on important due dates and appointments that I know about in advanced, but for daily tasks, the GTD Moleskine works great for me.
