Long time no post
GBJazzMan| June 23, 2007 10:16 amDear Internets,
I apologize for neglecting you and this blog. Things have been happening, I’ve just been too lazy to let you know about them. I will attempt be better about posting but I need you, the Internets, to get on my ass when I don’t write.
Today is my first day of Work Study, which I got. I may or maynot have mentioned that. So far it’s pretty laid back. I’m in the main lab blogging, doing homework, and basically making myself available just in case something happens. The thing that I am glad about is that I don’t need to clean the bathrooms.
It is going to be a long day, however, with work at the food library right after this. I’m going to try both jobs, and see how things work out before I make a decision, but I’m sure that these 12 hour days are going to suck.
I have decided that I waste too much time. After doing some quick math, there are probably 40 hours a week that I’m wasting after work, sleep and school. In an order to be more productive, I’m going to start doing stuff. Like writing, or drawing, or reading, or working on certs. Anything has got to be more productive than just kinda veggie out infront of my computer. It’s not like I’m evening playing video games. I played a bit of Knights of the Old Republic last weekend, but besides that the most gaming I’ve done is Kingdom of Loathing. So I don’t know, I know I’m getting busier, but I do seem to focus when I’m busy.
I think I need to lay off on Digg, because my Internet ADD is getting really bad.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. I promise more posts.

Well, with the extra 40 hours per week you better start calling me now and again. ITT Thornton is very different from Fint. Size being the most noticeable, CoEd’s being the second most noticeable….and they dress to be noticed. My instructors are great and very knowledgeable. Take a Carlo, and a Mike and you’ve pretty much got the entire staff in the IT department equalled. Exams and quizzes: Quizzes are given at the END OF THE CLASS PERIOD out here, so you better do your reading before class or you won’t do well. No mid terms, just homework, a project (counts as a mid term % wise) quizzes and a final. The job placement team, yes I said TEAM, works dilligently to find you work. I have had 3 opportunities and I turned them all down for various reasons. Class time conflict, training location (One was in New Jersey), and pay. There is so much IT opportunity out here it’s sickening so I am not going to make the mistake of jumping into a job that won’t work for me. Unlike in the Flint area, there are plenty of companies to look at. Microsoft, SunMicroSystems, StarTek, Quest, IBM, Cynergetics, Plexus, and TechSystems to name a few. Plus there are a lot of contract companies, of which, one has already called me.
I will be following up with the Stage Hands Union on Monday, they are looking for part time and full time network support technicians to break down and re-install computer networks at the Convention centers here in the Denver area. One student named mike had no experience and they hired him at $18.50/hr. He is in the CNS program. They are shipping him to Vegas for 2 weeks of training then shipping him back here. I hope he doesn’t gamble away his training pay. He told me they are still hiring a few people and this sounds like something I am interested in…
Take care Matt, and call me sometime you ITT TECHSUPPORT NUBE!!
Mark
