You are striped with radiation.

GBJazzMan| April 30, 2007 12:38 am

Since I live in Michigan, and I never go outside, I forget that as a redhead, I burn. Really easy. Needless to say, my arms are a nice bright red color. On the flipside, the new mower Dad got is really awesome.

Poker was last night and I played really well. Brad apparently was the only person who noticed that I’m adjusted my game to match that of the guys at the home game. I mean, those guys are pretty loose, so I’ve become more agressive with my raises and such. I don’t want to say too much, don’t want to give away all of tricks. But I doubt anyone reads this anyway.

My life has been pretty dull the last few days, but hey, that’s how I like it.

blog meme, lololol

GBJazzMan| April 25, 2007 12:27 pm

I haven’t done one of these since I stopped using LJ! Questions are from Rachael, so here it goes!

1. How many blogs/myspaces/livejournals/etc do you have? What are their URLs? Why the frick do you have them?

I have three: my LJ, my facebook page and the Hoobablog, which you are at. I created the LJ when I was at Tech, so the trolls could know what I was doing. The facebook is the result of peer pressure, and the Hoobablog is because I like to talk and I have got Dreamhost’s uber host package, so I figured I should use it.

2. How long have you been blogging, and why did you start?
Since ’02 or ’03. I starting blogging, like I said, so my friends and family who were still living down here could find out what was happening in the world of Matt.

3. On a scale of 1 to Uber-dork, how geeky are you?
Hmm. I’d say somewhere between a 7 and Leo Laporte. I know how to use Linux, I’ve used Solaris and didn’t go crazy. I’m not the world’s strongest coder, but I have put Linux on a 7 year old laptop.

4. How many monitors do you have, and how many do you use at a time? Provide photo proof, if possible.

My main desktop has 2 montiors, a 17inch LCD and a 19inch wideLCD. Sitting next to these monitors is a 15inch LCD HDTV (which I tried to use as a monitor, but that didn’t work). My crappy test box has a 15inch CRT hooked up to it and then their’s my laptop. So not counting my old laptop that I never use, that’s 5. I’m starting to call my desk NORAD. Here’s a link to a photo of part of the setup. Hyperlinked ’cause I didn’t bother resizing it.

5. What bumper stickers are on your car (describe), and how old are they?

All of the bumper stickers on my car are old. If I remember correctly, I’ve got a Thundercat’s logo, a Tae Kwon Do logo, the logo of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, an old political sticker, and a WTMU-Houghton sticker.

So how it works is if you want me to ask you some questions, just comment. That’s like, what, 3 of you or something?

I am easily amused

I’m taking notes for 70-270 (the managing WinXP course) in Open Office on an Ubuntu install. I got a laugh out of that. I dunno, maybe it’s only funny to me

I need to come up with more orginal post names

GBJazzMan| April 24, 2007 1:14 pm

Apparently two unrelated posts within the last couple of days had the same title. I apologize for the unorginal-ness and I will try to do better in the future.

Penguicon was a lot of fun, as you could probably tell from my few blog posts from during the con. If I had to do it over again, I’d get a hotel room. And probably spend more time in the game room. Also, get more ribbons.

I found a distro of linux today that seems like it’d be fun to play with. It’s called Damn Vulnerable Linux. It’s basically one big security exploit. I’m gonna download it and give it a whirl tonight.

The idiot in my classes got his hands on one of the same hacking books I have. Now I have to go through it because the last thing I want is that moron acting like he knows more than I do. I don’t know if it’s jealous or just a desire to make sure that idiots stays in his place.

i hate hitting the wall at 8:30 am

GBJazzMan| April 21, 2007 7:47 pm

My 3 hours of sleep I think is catching up to me. I’ve been been inhaling as much Caffiene as I can into my system so I can stay awake.

Today, I spent a good chunk of the afternoon hanging out with my buddies from the  UMF anime club. I also Volunteered in the con suite while Tron Guy was making these cheese things called Chubaquesos. Really good but also kinda bad.

I had the on demand t-shirt guy make me t-shirts of the Hoobajoob logo. They turned out really well, in my oppinion.

Beyond that, not much more to report. Although, I have decided that next year I’m gonna run a Stargate party room.

I’m bloggin in a panel about blogging. It’s all circular

Goddamn I need sleep

GBJazzMan| 9:14 am

I got about 3 hours of sleep. I’ve been popping Penguin caffiene mints and caffienated water and coffee just to stay awake. Staying up until 4am will do that and then waking up at 7:30 and not being able to get back to sleep.

I volunteered in the con suite lastnight and it was one of the best decisions yet. I basically sat around for 7 hours bullshitting with random people, deciding whether or not we should eat some mysterious soup we found, and poop. Ohh God did we talk about poop. Let’s just saying I’m not gonna be eating McDonalds  breakfast anytime soon.

Tron guy’s here, which is awesome and slightly creepy.

I’m in the consuite right now, typing this and burning KoL turns, and lets just say that the morning crew in the suite isn’t nearly as cool (and/or drunk) as the night crew. Most its a lot of intellectual penis measure. “Well I was homeschooled and entered cool at 7!” type bullshit. Ohh well.

More latter. I might try to find a nice quiet place to sleep sometime

Starship Troopers MST3k

GBJazzMan| April 20, 2007 8:18 pm

Right now I’m in a panel where we’re MSTing Starship Troopers. I never realized how bad this movie was until now. I missed the names of the two gentlemen who were running this, but they are just railing into it hard.

So far, I’ve had free food, played a game called Morgan’s List, saw a presentation on OpenAST and seen several people whom I haven’t seen in forever.

I’ve learned a lot so far, but the most important is that Starship Troopers is “Beautiful people dying violently.”

Im in ur Troy, nerdin ur con

GBJazzMan| 2:28 pm

I’m sitting in the lobby of of the Troy Hilton, leaching wifi and waiting for the prereg table open. I’m sitting hear talking with some guys about opensource and everything. I haven’t actually done anything but I’m already having a good time. I am gonna voluneeter, I think, so I can have a place to crash. The drive from GB to Troy is only 40 minutes, but it isn’t exactly a quick drive.
